What you have to do

Paying contributions on time

A business should be able to show that it can answer yes to these: Do you pay deductions and employer contributions to the fund within seven days after the end of each month? Do you give the fund the monthly contribution schedule with the minimum membership information the conduct standard requires? If a payment is late, is it escalated, paid with any interest the fund charges, and the cause fixed?

Directors and members

A business should be able to show that it can answer yes to these: Do directors and managers involved in financial affairs know the Act can make them personally liable for unpaid contributions? Are employees enrolled in line with their contract and the fund rules, and are deductions authorised and correctly recorded? Do you log and answer notices from the fund, the FSCA or the Pension Funds Adjudicator?

How to comply, step by step

  1. Paying contributions on time. Diarise the 7th, reconcile each payment to payroll and keep proof of payment. Check the standard for the fields and format, and test your payroll export against it. Keep an exceptions log and tell the fund before it reports the arrears.
  2. Directors and members. Include the duty in director induction and the monthly finance checklist. Match the enrolment list, fund rules and payroll deductions each quarter. Name one owner and record deadlines. The FSCA publishes lists of employers in arrears.
