Is every person who does security work for you registered, including in-house officers, and in the right grade? Have you checked owners, directors and officers against the disqualifications in the Act, such as scheduled offences? If registration is suspended, withdrawn or lapses, do you know you must still follow the Act's obligations during suspension and return the certificate?

Code of Conduct and employment

A business should be able to show that it can answer yes to these: Is the Code of Conduct available to staff and used in discipline, with signed acknowledgements? Do you meet the employer duties the Code points to, such as UIF, COIDA, skills development levies and the sectoral wage? Do you keep client contracts and deployment records?

How to comply, step by step

  1. Registration. Diarise annual fees and renewal and keep proof of payment. Check each person on the PSIRA register before deployment and re-check on a schedule. Keep a record of the checks and the dates. Write the procedure down and give it to management.
  2. Training and grading. Keep certificates in each personnel file and diarise refreshers. Link each officer's PSIRA and firearm authorisations and review expiry dates. Answer Not applicable if no officer is armed.
  3. Code of Conduct and employment. Include the Code in induction and keep signed copies. Cross-check with the BCEA, UIF, COIDA and Skills Development self-assessments. Keep a client and site register with contract dates and the officers assigned.
